Crafting takes skill, resources, equipment, and time in order to produce something usable. Hand crafting something gives a personal touch, but it does not provide guaranteed results every time.

Dice Pool: Dexterity + (Appropriate) Craft
Difficulty: 7 + modifiers (see below)

Examples of Modifiers

  • No facilities or tools to craft = You get no roll, you don't make something with nothing.
Proper tools but not the proper facilities = +2 difficulty
Proper facilities but no proper tools = -3 dice pool
Proper tools and proper facilities but not enough resources = +1 difficulty per missing dot of resources
Every 3 levels of an appropriate influence* = -1 difficulty (Max -2)
Retainers/Assistants = +1 die per assistant (Max +2) (too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the stew)

    • * “Appropriate influence” is arguable so please ask your ST before proceeding.

    • Lastly, appropriate specialties, merits and flaws will apply.

In order to create your item you will enter into an extended challenge with the ST. Determine what your dice pool is, find all modifiers (keep in mind merits/flaws and specializations), then make your roll. Continue to roll until you gain the number of successes required for your target quality, or until you fail or botch. Expertly crafted items are allowed one special traits. Master Craft items are allowed 2 special traits.

Resulting Quality

  • Sub-par item creation or mass production = 10 successes (1 week* creation time)
Average item creation or higher quality mass production = 15 successes (2 weeks* creation time)
Above average item creation no mass production of this level = 20 successes (3 weeks* creation time)
Expert item creation no mass production of this level = 25 successes (4 weeks* creation time)
Master craft item creation no mass production must have tools AND facilities = 30 successes (5 weeks* creation time)

    • * Assistants/Retainers may reduce creation time by a maximum of 1 week. This is STer discretion.

Example: Jose wants to tailor a master craft suit.
Jose has a tailoring dice pool of 9 dice (dex 4, crafts: tailoring 5).
Jose has the merit: skill aptitude crafts: tailoring. (-2 difficulty)
Jose has tools and his studio. (no penalty)
Jose has 2 assistants. (+2 dice)

Jose now has a dice pool of 11 dice (+2 dice from assistants), he will roll at a difficulty of 5 (skill aptitude merit -2 difficulty) his target number is 30 successes on an extended roll. His specialization will make every 10 rolled count as 2 successes.

Any item of Expert or Master level will be allowed 1 or 2 special characteristics respectively. Such traits are only available in game through crafting, or by purchase of the Merit: Exceptional Equipment.

Examples of special qualities:

  • Well balanced: +1 to initiative
    Armored: +1 armor soak die.
Perfect Edge: +1 die to damage (reflected in bonus to strength dice pool)
Stylish: +1 die on social rolls
Strong materials: Item gains +3 soak dice when damage is dealt directly to it. (These dice are to be used only to determine if the item breaks when struck.)
